After you have nailed the painting up on the wall, don’t just sit behind and admire for the beauty will be short lived if you do not look after it appropriately. And if you are troubling over how to maintain your piece of canvas painting such that it will be in the best condition, fret not.
Here are some useful tips:
1. The very first step in maintaining your canvas painting is to frame it up. Frames act as cushion against any physical shocks and impacts. Frames can be purchase easily off the rack. You could also send it to a local framer as well. Be reminded not to frame your painting under a glass panel to avoid damaging the painting’s surface.
2. Always handle your paintings by carrying the sides of the wooden stretches or frames. Direct contact with the canvas itself is not advisable.
3. Steer clear of areas with excessive heat, cold and humidity. These environmental factors will cause the canvas to turn moist, expand and shrink periodically hence inflicting damage to the painting.
4. Avoid placing your painting in extreme light of darkness. Extensive exposure to light causes the painting to fade away while being kept in darkness for too long will deepen the colour of the painting as well.
5. Do not leave the paintings near or on pointed objects. These sharp edges could inflict dents or cuts on your fine portraits, hence disfiguring them.
6. Apply a layer of varnish to the painted surface of your oil painting to serve as an extra layer of protection from the environment.
7. Periodic dusting of the paintings is recommended to get rid of the trapped dust particles. Use a dry and soft brush, or micro cloth to sweep the dust off. A low power vacuum is a feasible option as well.
8. If your oil painting has been badly damage, bring it to a professional cleaning and restoration service shop. The experts will reinstate the vibrancy of the painting which is lost. Although such services are relatively costly, to be able to get back a beautiful painting certainly outweighs the cost incurred.
As you can see, all these tips are simple and can be easily done. Although oil paintings are delicate items that require extra attention, it is worthwhile to have one yourself. With such beautiful masterpieces which could last for generations, how can people not be awed by them?

EYE PHONES for Digital Video Cameras. A Plea to Manufacturer
After moving to the Midwest, I found myself finding some old drawings and papers for all kinds of my old concepts and designs. This one, may interest you. Back in 1976, there were no digital cameras, no tiny LCD screens, no cell phones, and no personal computers. This was 20 years before Windows introduced pcs with Win 95! But I had an idea for a way to project a tiny TV image on a screen in front of your face. It could be hooked to a Portable TV or a VCR, I envisioned. So I made this drawing. I showed it to my technician friends at Daden Accociates and Lark Engineering, where I worked. They all loved the idea, but knew there was no kind of technology to makes something like that work. Well, we all know that nowadays, we have virtual reality headsets, that are quite different than my design, but nonetheless, it is now being done. Be that as it may, this is my plea to manufacturers who make cameras with no gunsights, or viewfinders,. I hope they come up with a way to make EYE PHONES to see your subjects clearly, not squinting into the tiny screen with sun and light reflecting on it. Seems logical to me, and I think Professional Videographers would love it too. The Virtual Eyephones could be shut off at anytime with a switch to revert to normal viewing thought electronically controlled sunglasses. The most controversial version I have come up with, would have OPTICAL TRANSMITTERS which could directly send the video signal to the brain through the eye. Of course there would …
